New Burton Binding System

New Burton Binding System
Burton is attempting to change the way that bindings work, and for the better. They will create a more stable binding that will allow for easier change in angle when you want to re-adjust. I have not ridden with them but here are some reviews. It has actually been around and incorporated with some of the bindings...but now they are staring to put it more into the popular models of boards for the 2012-13 year models.
Heres how they work

I have not ridden with them but here are some reviews.

Hiraoka wins the FIS World Cup Halfpipe Competition

Taku Hiraoka, from Japan wins the FIS World Cup snowboarding halfpipe February 14th.  It took place in Sochi, Russia with really warm weather that all the snowboarders competing were complaining about.  The temperatures were low from 46 to a high of 54 degrees.  This turned the slopes into slush which was not fun to snowboard in.  Hiraoka got 90.25 points and in second place while in second place Iouri Podladtchikov from Switzerland came in second with 84.50 points and Scott Lago from the US came in third with 83.25 points.

Travis Rice Takes Flight to Another World

Travis Rice Takes Flight to Another World
The art of flight is a snowboarding movie that was expanded into a tv series because of its immense popularity and crazy footage. Travis Rice, known as possibly the best back country snowboarder of all time, headed this project with the goal to snowboard in places around the world that have the best conditions, with the craziest lines, and that most people have never been, let alone snowboarded. They went to several different countries including Canada (Nelson, Revelstoke), Chile (Patagonia), Romania, Alaska, Jackson, Wyoming, and Aspen, Colorado. Funded by Red Bull Travis and group of about 20 other friends/ professional snowboarders conquer all these spots around the world. The uniqueness of the movie that takes it over the top of most snowboarding movies is the places that they go and the shots that they take of nature combined with the snowboarding aspect. Also when this made its debut all around the world it was shown in 3D, first snowboarding movie to do so.  Here check out the trailer. And if you are interested the movie, and the series which has more about the lifestyle associated with these guys you can find it on Netflix.

Snow Report

Looking into the weekend its a great time to get out of the house and to the mountain.  The effects of Nemo left a tremendous amount of snow on all of the mountains.  It was a snowboarders dream for all of this snow to fall.  Get the most out of the weekend and get around to different mountains before the snow starts to melt!

Here's a look at some of the mountains in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New York.

Winter Storm Nemo Brings Some College Creativity

Winter Storm Nemo brought thirty plus inches to the northeast, with it bringing about thirty two inches to Bridgeport and sacred heart students who were hungry for a snow day. So what me and my roommates decided to do on our day off was to get creative with all this snow and build a small snowpark in our backyard. A few of us have been skiing/snowboarding for pretty much our whole lives so we figured why not have some fun with all the snow. Because of the snowdrifts from all the wind the snow happened to pile up in some perfect places to make a ramp to get speed and a jump. We have a deck that has a roof with a slight slope that was about twelve feet off the ground. So with a shovel and some trash barrels we made a ramp that reached about eight feet up the side of the roof and a jump about twenty yards from the ramp.  We also used a desk and a metal pole we had to grind on. Heres a video of myself.

I was also looking around the internet because I figured I would find some other college students doing the same thing as me and my friends..and i did.

Shaun White Takes Gold..Again

Shaun White Takes 15th Gold Medal at The X-Games With 98

Shaun White is arguably the most dominate athlete at his sport. Granted he is not as big Tiger Woods or Lebron James, they are comparable in their own sports to the dominance that they hold. Shaun White has taken home 13 Super-pipe gold medals with two slope-style gold medals. The super-pipe is a 500 foot long 56 foot wide and 18 foot high walls of ice that shaun white got 24 " 1' out of setting a world record with his backside air. The slope-style competition which has not been able to be dominated by a single person is composed of rails and jumps that the competitors string together in a run to gain the highest score. Falls and assisted landings will reduce your points which is out of 100.

The X-Games is the Olympics of action sports. In the past years the X-Games occurred once in the summer once in the winter with their respected sports for each season. But this year they have changed it to occur more than once a year so their is six events in different locations all over the globe. They are Aspen, Colorado(which was Jan 24-27) the next location is Tignes, France from March 20-22, then off to Foz Do Iguacu, Brasil April 18-21, then flying out to Barcelona, Spain from May 16-19, then to Munich, Germany Jun 27-30, then Finally back to the U.S. in Los Angeles from August 1-4. So wherever you are in the world you now can have a chance to see the X-Games, and it is sure something that you wont regret.
